Southwest Elementary Wins Regional Governor's Cup


Southwest Calloway Elementary School Academic Team are the Governor’s Cup Regional Champions. Southwest placed 1st place overall out of 16 elementary schools at the Kentucky Governor’s Cup Regional tournament held on Saturday, March 5th at Morgan Elementary School in Paducah, KY. Among taking home 1st place honors, Southwest placed in all competition areas.

The Quick Recall team swept the tournament with no losses to take home the 1st place trophy. The Quick Recall team consisted of Ava Bogard, Theodore Perlow, Hayden Gilbert, Ryan Poole, Cash Pittman, Rylan Wallace, and Ellie Johnson. The Future Problem Solving team also took home the 1st place trophy. This team consisted of Charlie Barnes, Ally Turner, Ryan Poole, and Duke Burns.

Southwest Elementary also had many individual medals and placed in every academic content area. Theodore Perlow received the 1st place medal in social studies which also ranked him an impressive 2nd in the state. In math, Ava Bogard placed 1st and her score also ranked her 5th in the state. In the area of arts and humanities, Hayden Gilbert took home the 1st place medal, and this score ranked her 7th in the state while her teammate Ellie Johnson placed 5th in the region. In science, Theodore Perlow placed 2nd followed by Ava Bogard with the 3rd place medal. In language arts, Ella Finley took home the 5th place medal. Finally, Leah Hughes placed 1st overall in composition.
