Southwest Academic Team Wins District Governor's Cup, Heads to Regionals

Southwest Academic Team Wins District Governor's Cup, Heads to Regionals

Southwest Calloway Elementary School's academic team finished first in the district Governor's Cup competition on February 7th. Southwest finished with 53.5 points, followed by North Calloway Elementary with 30, East Calloway Elementary with 24.5, and Murray Middle with 15.

The Southwest Quick Recall team finished undefeated at the event with team members Cade Musser, Emry Munoz, Keegan Skirka, Elizabeth Swatzell, Zoe Simmons, Penelope Perlow, Ella Osborne, Molly Wade, and Jacob Oswalt.

In individual competition, Emry Munoz captured 1st place in science, Cade Musser secured 1st place in social studies and 1st place in language arts, and Clay Grogan achieved 1st place in composition. Mason Purdy placed 2nd in language arts, and Elizabeth Swatzell earned 2nd in arts and humanities. Third‑place awards went to Keegan Skirka for math, Isaac Scales for social studies, and Sara Sebby, who tied for 3rd place in language arts. In addition, Stella Wilson earned 4th place in arts and humanities, and Jacob Oswalt tied for 4th place in social studies. Jasper Bauer placed 5th in math.

The Future Problem Solving Team finished second with team members Stella Wilson, Cami Carlisle, Seth Vernon, and Elizabeth Swatzell.

Southwest now moves on to regional competition where they look to defend their regional championship from 2025.
