Calloway County Middle School Academic Team recently competed in the mid-season tournament hosted by the West Kentucky Academic Association or WKAA. The tournament included 16 middle schools from all around Region One of Kentucky. After a great day of competition, the Lakers walked away with several individual accomplishments and the overall championship title.
Along with the overall championship, students were awarded medals in all areas of competition! In the area of science, the Lakers placed five students in the top ten with Ava Bogard claiming the championship, followed by Ella Martin in second place, Theodore Perlow in fourth, Hayden Loveless in sixth, and Collin Naber in seventh place. The Lakers had four students in the top ten in the area of mathematics with Ava Bogard claiming second place and Mason Riley in fourth place, followed by Emilio Gomez and Kyler McKeel. In the area of social studies, four Lakers cracked the top ten scores with Tyler Saalwaechter claiming the championship, followed by Molly Pierce as runner-up, Theodore Perlow in third place, and Mason Falwell in eighth place. The Lakers had six students in the top ten of fine arts with Ella Martin being named the champion, Hayden Gilbert as runner-up, followed by Ella Finley, McKenna Hopgood, Katee McKeel, and Ellie Johnson. The Lakers also broke the top ten in Language Arts with Collin Naber claiming the championship, Hillary Bohannon coming in runner-up, followed by Tyler Sebby, Aaliyah Byrley, and Leah Hughes.
In the team event of Quick Recall, the Lakers brought home the championship while remaining undefeated for the tournament. The Lakers won all four of their pool games to place them as the first seed in the round of sixteen. The Lakers then won all three of the single elimination games to bring home the trophy. The Quick Recall team is composed of Ella Martin, Hillary Bohannon, Molly Pierce, Ava Bogard, Mason Riley, Tyler Saalwaechter, and Tyler Sebby. In addition, the Laker JV Quick Recall Team also competed in the varsity tournament on Friday. The JV team finished their day claiming the fourth place trophy! The JV team members are Hayden Gilbert, Kyler McKeel, Mason Falwell, Collin Naber, and Theodore Perlow.
