CCMS Academic Team Places 3rd Overall at State Governor's Cup

CCMS Academic Team Places 3rd Overall at State Governor's Cup

Calloway County Middle School's Academic Team finished third overall in the State KAAC Governor's Cup competition March 14-17 in Louisville. The third-place finish comes from 330 middle school teams competing across the state. The team has finished in the top 5 for each of the last six seasons, including second place overall finishes in 2022 and 2024.

The quick recall team finished third overall after a narrow loss in the semifinals of the championship tournament. They went on to defeat Bondurant Middle School in the third place match.  The quick recall team finished with a season record of 37 wins and 1 loss, while claiming three tournament championships. The team consists of Ava Bogard, Hayden Gilbert, Mason Falwell, Collin Naber, Kyler McKeel, Theodore Perlow, Grace Munoz, and Madison Purdy. 

The Future Problem Solving team was named fourth place in the state. The FPS team composed of Aubrey Cain, Hayden Gilbert, Allyson Turner, and Ellie Johnson are now qualified to represent Kentucky at the International FPS Tournament to be held later in the summer. This will allow them to compete against FPS teams from across the globe. In addition to team FPS, Lilah Hill claimed first place in the FPS alternates tournament.   

The individual recognitions were awarded to students who placed in the top 10 of the state for their individual tested area.  The first recognition was in the area of General Knowledge, where Collin Naber placed third, Ava Bogard placed fifth, and Kyler McKeel finished in sixth place.

In Individual Quick Recall, Ava Bogard crossed the stage again as the state champion, followed by Collin Naber in fifth place. In the area of science, two Lakers made the stage with Ava Bogard being the state runner-up, followed by Collin Naber in eighth place. In Social Studies, Mason Falwell came in fifth place. In Language Arts, Collin Naber was named as the state runner-up. In Mathematics, Ava Bogard finished in third place.

Three students were selected for the state academic all-tournament teams. The Lakers had two students make the first team—Ava Bogard and Collin Naber. In addition, Mason Falwell was awarded the honor of being on the second team. 

The Laker team was joined on stage by Governor Beshear who presented the trophies to the students in front of thousands of competitors and spectators.
