Erica Gray is the August Laker Champion for Kids

Calloway County Schools have named Erica Gray as the August Laker Champion for Kids. Gray is a chemistry teacher and the coach of the academic team at Calloway County High School.

The Laker Champion for Kids is awarded each month to a Laker staff member who goes above and beyond for students and colleagues.

Gray was nominated by CCHS teacher Jennifer Ernstberger.

“She is the supreme leader of our national award-winning Academic Team," wrote Ernstberger. "She gives her heart and soul to the team, and you can tell by the number of championships that she and the students have worked hard for. She also spends her time helping students prepare for the ACT and SAT, making sure each student gets the help that they need.  She pushes her students to make sure that they are giving 100% and will not accept anything less than their best. She is a friend to everyone that she has contact with and the ultimate cheerleader for everyone else. She is a true Champion for Kids and for Calloway County Schools as a whole.“

CCHS principal Mark Mallory also appreciates Gray's work.

“When it comes to academic achievement, no other organization stands higher than our academic team," Mallory wrote. "She not only pushes these students to be amongst the best in the entire Commonwealth, but she has also put together a team of coaches that through their unique strengths, they help these students flourish. As the science department chair, she leads her department and provides valuable insight in regards to our science curriculum. She also chairs the curriculum committee for the high school, and her input has helped ensure that students are provided with rigorous curriculum, aligned course sequencing, and amble opportunities for students to achieve their very best here at Calloway.“
