CCHS Secretary Monica Marshall is the April Laker Champion for Kids

Calloway County Schools has named Monica Marshall the April Laker Champion for Kids. Marshall works in the front office at Calloway County High School as the receptionist and attendance secretary.
The Laker Champion for Kids is awarded each month to a Laker staff member who goes above and beyond for students and colleagues.
Marshall was nominated by CCHS principal Steve Smith.
“If you have ever seen of an old Vaudevillian performer who could spin 10 plates on sticks and keep them spinning all at once - that's what she does on a daily basis," said Smith. " As a principal, whenever I approach her desk to ask her a question, I typically need to wait for an opportunity between students, phone calls, doorbells, etc. Also, the phrase, 'That's not my job,' has never been uttered by her. She serves as gatekeeper, part-time nurse, operator, attendance guru, and front office coordinator. She has a memory like a steel trap, and she knows everyone’s name, including parents. Most importantly, she is a true professional and extremely dependable. She is the best I've seen at what she does, and CCHS is incredibly fortunate to have her manning the front office."
Marshall also works closely with CCHS nurse Erin Garland.
“She is the chaos manager, first-responder, ultimate multi-tasker, listener, solution-finder, helper, encourager, detailed organizer, the all-knowing and about any other responsibility or title that you could ever dream up," Garland said. "She goes above and beyond each day and tackles all the many responsibilities and challenges thrown at her with grace. Simply put, we could not function without her. You would be hard pressed to find any student or staff member in this building or district that would not say the same about her. She not only goes above and beyond to make sure that she does the best at her job, but she always makes sure that each and every student is taken care of in our building. She truly cares for each kid and that shows in her actions every day. I am lucky to witness the kindness and care that she extends to each student she encounters. Our school would truly not be the place it is without her at the head of the ship. She is a champion for our school, our district, and more importantly-our kids. Although she never wants to be in the spotlight, it is exactly where she is meant to be."
