CCHS Chemistry Team Wins MSU Scholarship Tournament

Calloway County High School Laker Chemistry Team took first place at the 52^nd Annual Murray State Chemistry Scholarship Tournament on Thursday, November 10, 2022.  The Lakers, made up of seniors Ethan Cain, Isaac Martin, Kerrigan McManus, and Cesar Villeda, placed first among fifteen teams from three states, including schools from southern Illinois, northwest Tennessee, and western Kentucky.  The Lakers walked away with $500 in cash and $1600 in scholarships.

The Lakers competed in the Upper Division level of competition, which was reserved for students who were enrolled or had finished second-year chemistry.  Cesar Villeda took 3^rd place in individual placement, earning $100 cash and a $600 scholarship to MSU, while Isaac Martin earned the top spot among all students at the tournament, earning $200 in cash and $1000 in MSU scholarships.  The Lakers also took the championship in team events, earning $200 for the school. Marshall County, KY earned 2^nd place; Marion, IL came in 3^rd place, and Union County, KY took 4^th place.
