CCHS Academic Team Wins KAAC Governor's Cup Regionals, Heads to State

Calloway County High School's Academic Team earned the KAAC Governor's Cup Regional Championship on February 21st after competition held at Murray High School. The Lakers have qualified for the KAAC State Governor's Cup competition March 20-23 in Louisville.
The Lakers earned first place overall with 48 points, while McCracken County took second place with 37 points, and Murray High earned third place with 23 points. The region also includes students from other Region 1 schools including Ballard Memorial, Caldwell County, Carlisle County, Fulton County, Graves County, Hickman County, Livingston Central, Marshall County, Mayfield, Paducah Tilghman, St. Mary, and Trigg County.
In team events, the Laker Quick Recall team went 3-0 in the double-elimination tournament, defeating Paducah Tilghman 41-7, McCracken County 39-19, and Murray High 43-23 to earn the Quick Recall Championship. The Lakers were led by seniors Connor Pile and Aubrey Naber, junior Maya Munoz, and freshman Ava Bogard with assistance from seniors Max Chapman, Grant Todd, and Amber Wu; juniors Aiden Hooper and Sean Williams; Sophomore Ella Martin, and Freshman Collin Naber.
The Future Problem Solving Team of Vayla Carlisle, Addison Finley, Madison Morris, and Aubrey Naber earned straight first place rankings from judges for their analysis of challenges and solutions related to video games and gamification. The team also advances to state and will be vying for a repeat invitation to the International Conference this summer.
Numerous students also earned points for the Lakers and will compete at the state level.
In Arts and Humanities, Ella Martin earned 3rd place, followed by Maya Munoz in 4th place. Language Arts proved to be a strong category for the team, with Aubrey Naber securing 1st place, Collin Naber taking 2nd, and Ella Martin finishing 4th.
In Mathematics, Ava Bogard captured 2nd place, with Amber Wu close behind in 3rd and Sean Williams earning 5th place. The Science event showcased more Laker talent as Ava Bogard placed 2nd and Aiden Hooper took 4th. Hooper also represented the team in Social Studies, finishing 4th overall.
Rounding out the competition, the Lakers excelled in General Knowledge, where Connor Pile achieved 1st place, Collin Naber earned 3rd, and Ava Bogard secured 4th.
The Lakers are coached by Erica Gray, Lane Springer, Cassidy McAllister, Margaret Richter, Jayden Morris, and Dan Thompson.
