CCHS Academic Team Wins 16th Straight District Championship

CCHS Academic Team Wins 16th Straight District Championship

Calloway County High School's Academic Team captured the KAAC Governor's Cup District Championship on January 31st at Mayfield High School. This is the 16th straight district championship for the school. The Lakers took first place with 73.5 total points earned in team and individual events, while Murray High earned 2nd place with 33 points. Mayfield and Graves rounded out the top 4 earning 6.5 and 6 points respectively. 

In team events, the Laker Quick Recall team went undefeated in the double-elimination tournament, defeating Mayfield 53-3, Murray High 38-35 in round 2 and again in round 4 with a score of 38-26. The Quick Recall team was led by seniors Aubrey Naber and Connor Pile, with assistance from Amber Wu, Grant Todd, Maya Munoz, Aiden Hooper, Sean Williams, Ella Martin, Tyler Saalwaechter, Ava Bogard, Collin Naber, and Hayden Gilbert. The Lakers advance to Regionals, which will be held Saturday, February 21st at Murray High School. 

The Future Problem Solving team of Aubrey Naber, Vayla Carlisle, Madison Morris, and Addy Finley wrote the championship booklet on Space Exploration in which they identified challenges and created an action plan to create more viable living conditions for space colonies. This district win comes on the heels of their 2nd place International finish in June 2025. The FPS team advances to Regionals, which will be held at CCHS on Monday, February 16th. 

Students competed in individual content testing, in which the top five finishers advance to Regionals:

Composition: 1st place Madison Morris, 2nd place Vayla Carlisle

Arts and Humanities: 1st place Maya Munoz, 3rd place Ella Martin, 5th place Hayden Gilbert

Language Arts: 1st place Collin Naber, 2nd place Aubrey Naber, 3rd place Ella Martin

Math: 1st place Ava Bogard, 2nd place Amber Wu, 3rd place Sean Williams

Science: 1st place Aiden Hooper, 2nd place Ava Bogard, 3rd place Connor Pile

Social Studies: 3rd place Grant Todd, 5th place Aiden Hooper
