CCHS Academic Team Finishes 6th in KAAC Governor's Cup State Finals

Calloway County High School's Academic Team placed 6th as a team overall at the KAAC Governor’s Cup State Tournament held in Louisville on March 20-23.  The Lakers advanced 21 students to the state tournament, where they competed against more than 2200 students statewide. 

The Laker Quick Recall team advanced to the Quarter Finals for a 5th place finish after winning the district and regional tournaments earlier in the year.  In rounds 1 and 2, they defeated St. Xavier HS 45-19 and Western Hills 39-24, before taking a loss in round 3 to eventual 3rd place Quick Recal recipients Trinity High School 40-21. In the fourth round, they faced the team that ended their run in the sweet 16 last year, Paul G. Blazer where they came out victorious this year with a score of 33-26.  Round 5 ended the night with a 35-27 win against Greenwood High School to secure a spot in the Sweet 16. The Lakers competed hard on Monday morning and advanced to the Elite 8 with a win against South Laurel High School, 43-32. The Lakers met Trinity High School again in the Elite 8 round where they were defeated by the eventual 3rd place team 32-45 to end their season. The Lakers were led by captain Connor Pile, Aubrey Naber, Maya Munoz, Ava Bogard, and assisted by Sean Williams, Amber Wu, Grant Todd, Aiden Hooper, Max Chapman, Ella Martin, Collin Naber, and Zack Haws.

The Laker Future Problem Solving Team earned a 4th place finish and qualified for the International World Finals contest in June for their work identifying problems and providing an actionable plan to issues surrounding nanotechnology. Aubrey Naber, Vayla Carlisle, Madison Morris and Addy Finley competed for this this FPS team.

Aubrey Naber: 7th Language Arts

Collin Naber: 9th Language Arts

In Future Problem Solving Component Events, several Lakers were awarded for their efforts:

Sarah Doyle: 11th place Senior Division Scenario Writing

Allyson Turner: 15th place Middle Division Scenario Writing

Vayla Carlisle: 1st place Senior Division Scenario Performance; qualified for International Conference

Allyson Turner: 7th place Middle Division Scenario Performance

Hollyn Aldridge: 1st Place Senior Division Alternates Future Problem Solving
