The CCHS Academic Team earned Runners Up at the KAAC Governor’s Cup Regional tournament held at Paducah Tilghman on Saturday, February 18th. The contest featured district winners from 15 schools across western Kentucky, with the Lakers earning 43 total points, behind McCracken County’s 58. Graves County and Paducah Tilghman finished off the top four with 11 and 6 points, respectively.
The 2022 State Champion Laker Future Problem Solving Team earned first place in the regional competition. Drake Calhoon, Sidney Lasley, Brooklyn Swatzell, and Vayla Carlisle wrote the championship booklet examining issues with the robotic workforce and will compete at Governor’s Cup State on March 17th, 2023.
The Laker Quick Recall team came in second as members Isaac Martin, Ethan Cain, Cesar Villeda and Ellie Whisman defeated Paducah Tilghman (46-8), Caldwell County (31-4), and Graves County (48-17) before being defeated by McCracken. The Lakers were assisted by Amber Wu, Ezra Foote, Connor Pile, Taylor Frantz, Kaylee Tharp, Nathaniel Fowler, and Addi Pervine. The Quick Recall team advances to state.
Several individuals also advance to state in content area assessment:
Arts and Humanities: Ellie Whisman 3rd and Connor Pile 5th
Language Arts: Ellie Whisman 2nd, Aubrey Naber 5th
Ellie Whisman and Cesar Villeda are both ranked on the top 10 leaderboard in Language Arts and Social Studies, respectively.
Several Lakers were names to the Paducah Sun all district and all region teams. All-District honors go to Amber Wu, Drake Calhoon, Cesar Villeda, Ellie Whisman, Ethan Cain, and Isaac Martin. All-Region honors go to Amber Wu, Drake Calhoon, and Ellie Whisman.
The Lakers are coached by Erica Gray, Lane Springer, Margaret Richter, Dan Thompson, Cassidy McAllister, and Jayden Morris.
