Mrs. Barrett has been an educator working in the field of literacy since the fall of 1996. Beginning her career at her alma mater, Graves County High School, Mrs. Barrett applied her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and History and her German minor by spending 6 years teaching 9-12 graders in either language arts or German. Looking for an opportunity to work outside of her home district, Mrs. Barrett made the jump to the neighboring Calloway County School system in the fall of 2003, working at the Day Treatment facility and middle school. During the next 14 years, Mrs. Barrett worked as either an ELA educator or literacy coach for Calloway County Middle School. Interested in the shift towards personalized learning, Mrs. Barrett joined the faculty of South Marshall Middle School the fall of 2016, working with 6-8 grade students in Marshall's Explore Academy. When given the opportunity to come back home and work at Calloway County High School, Mrs. Barrett made the transition. She now teaches freshman English, incorporating her love of literacy with what she has learned about personalized learning and cultivating passion projects in the classroom through trainings and trips around the United States, including Washington, D.C., Ohio, and Wisconsin. Her desire is to create a space where kids feel free to discover, learn, and understand - - daily!Outside of school, Mrs. Barrett spends time with her husband of 22 years, Tim, and their children, Marlee and Beau. Truly Lakers for Life,  the Barrett family feels blessed to be a part of Laker Nation.
