Calloway County High School senior Julio Garcia recently won first place in sculpture in the recent KyAEA Pennyrile/Purchase Regional High School Art Exhibition. Garcia's sculpture entitled "Abhor" was created under the direction of CCHS art teacher Shannon Boyd.

The purpose of the exhibition is to recognize, encourage, and reward excellence by Kentucky’s art students, teachers, and programs at the high school level and to bring about a deeper understanding, support, and cooperation across secondary and college art faculty and programs. MSU Professor of Art Education Dr. Rebecca Williams collaborated with Stephanie Gilbert, the art educator at Trigg County High School, to coordinate the regional exhibition. Jurors for the show were the faculty of the MSU Department of Art & Design. The jurors selected artwork that expressed imaginative content, personal interpretation, and individuality, as well as technical competence, skill in handling the media, and overall craftsmanship.
