Southwest Elementary Wins District Governor's Cup


Southwest Elementary School placed first overall at the Kentucky Governor’s Cup District tournament held on Saturday, February 12th at North Elementary School. Southwest competed against Murray Middle, North Elementary, and East Elementary. Among taking home 1st place honors, Southwest placed in all competition areas. Southwest took home 1st place in Quick Recall. The Quick Recall team consisted of Ava Bogard, Theodore Perlow, Hayden Gilbert, Ryan Poole, Cash Pittman, Rylan Wallace, and Ellie Johnson. The Future Problem Solving team also took home first place. This team consisted of Charlie Barnes, Ally Turner, Ryan Poole, and Duke Burns.

Southwest Elementary also had many individual medals and placed in every academic content area. In science, Theodore Perlow received first place and his score ranked him fourth in the state. Ava Bogard took home the 2nd place medal ranking her fifth in the state. In the area of arts and humanities, Hayden Gilbert took home the first place medal, and this score ranked her tenth in the state while teammates Katee McKeel placed third and Ellie Johnson placed fourth in the district. In social studies, Theodore Perlow placed first in the district which ranked him an impressive third in the state, and Kyler McKeel took home the third place district medal. In math, Ava Bogard took home first place and Emilio Gomez placed fifth. In language arts, Ella Finley placed fourth and Ryan Poole placed fifth. Finally, Leah Hughes took home first place in composition with teammates Emma Lanier placing third and Abigail Gardner placing fifth.
