CCMS Future Problem Solving Team Gets International Experience

The Calloway County Middle School Future Problem Solving (FPS) Team recently returned from the FPS International Tournament held in Amherst, Massachusetts. The tournament was held June 5—9 on the campus of UMASS and included teams from 14 countries as well as teams from around the United States.  The topic of focus for the international competition was “De-extinction” of plants and animals.  These students were given a future scene, or scenario, based on the IC topic and were expected to complete a booklet comprised of 16 challenges, an underlying problem, 16 solutions, criteria, and a final action plan in a two-hour time period.  Additionally, this group then presented their action plan to a panel of judges once their booklet had been completed.  After many days of competition, the CCMS team placed just outside the top ten in the world competition!

This concludes an amazing season for the Calloway Middle FPS Team.  Their honors include a district championship, a regional championship, a state championship, a third place and championship finish in state alternates, and an individual FPS state championship.  The season concluded with this team representing the state of Kentucky and USA at the International competition.  Team members include Drake Calhoon, Ellie Whisman, Enas Abo Al Haija, Rebecca Grosz, Taylor Frantz, and Sidney Lasley.  The FPS team is coached by Brianna Madden and Whitney Pile.
