Isaac Anderson Accepted to Gatton Academy

Isaac Anderson

Congratulations to CCHS sophomore student Isaac Anderson for being selected to attend The Gatton Academy on the campus of Western Kentucky University.  The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky is Kentucky’s first residential 2-year STEM program for gifted and talented junior and seniors.  Established in 2007, students at The Gatton Academy’s enroll as juniors and are full-time WKU students pursuing their interests in advanced science, technology, engineering and mathematical careers.  Applicants were evaluated based on ACT/SAT scores, high school grades, awards, extracurricular activities, responses to essay and short answer questions, and letters of recommendation. In addition to these criteria, earlier this month, 189 candidates were invited to interview with WKU faculty members, community leaders from across the Commonwealth, and Gatton Academy alumni.  “I am thrilled that each one of the 96 students has agreed to be a part of our community for the next two years,” states Assistant Director for Admissions and Public Relations Zack Ryle.  “The ability to offer this opportunity to these 96 bright students, which brings The Gatton Academy to our funded capacity, is truly exciting.  I look forward to seeing each student grow in immeasurable ways over their next two years and beyond!”  Students from 54 counties represent the Class of 2021.  Isaac has been a member of the Academic Team, The Science Bowl Team, The Robotics Team and the band while at CCHS.  He is also enrolled in dual credit courses at Murray State University. His parents are Marty and Charity Anderson and he has one sister, Olivia, who attends Calloway County Middle School.  Isaac is the 6th student to attend The Gatton Academy from Calloway County High School in the past 10 years.
