2018 6th Grade Showcase Champions

6th Grade Showcase Champions

Recently, the 6th grade Laker Academic Team brought home their 11th championship in the past twelve years at the Academic Showcase.  The event was sponsored by the Kentucky Association of Academic Competition and was hosted by Lowes Elementary, as it consisted of five other teams from around the region.


After a long day of competition, the Lakers posted a team score of 81 points, while Lowes Elementary finished as runners-up with a total of 39 points.  


In the written assessments, the Lakers brought home hardware in every competition!  In Language Arts, the Lakers claimed the top three spots as Kaylee Tharp finished in first place, followed by Michaela Bradley in second place, and Emma Martin in third place.  The Lakers also claimed three medalists in Fine Arts where Jacee McKeel claimed second place, followed by Nathaniel Fowler in third place, and Addison Pervine in fifth place.  The area of Mathematics had Gary Rogers claiming the championship with Mason Newman finishing in second place.  In Social Studies, the Lakers had Ezra Foote claim the championship with Zak Stark and Levi Dunnaway both finishing in third place.  The Lakers had two students medal in Science with Jack Williams claiming third place and Johnny Shouse in fourth place. The Lakers also had Kaylee Morris finish in fifth place in the English Composition portion of the tournament.  In addition, the Quick Recall team won the championship going undefeated throughout the tournament and the season!  The Quick Recall team includes Zak Stark, Emma Martin, Nathaniel Fowler, Gary Rogers, Ezra Foote, Kaylee Tharp, and Jacee McKeel. Other participating members of the Laker team are Elizabeth Lanier, Maddy Poll, and Ellie Falwell.


A few individuals of the Laker Team brought home some special state recognition from the weekend.  Jacee McKeel scored a 28/35 on the Fine Arts assessment, which was the third best score in the entire state!  Meanwhile, Kaylee Tharp scored a 28/35 on the Language Arts assessment, which was the fourth highest score in the state followed by Michaela Bradley who scored a 27/35 on the Language Arts test putting her ninth in the state!


The Laker Team is coached by Kelly Duncan, Dan Thompson, Cody Brown, Debbie Drane, Mitch Hultman, and Scott Pile.
