On February 12, Calloway County Middle School Speech Team claimed their 19th consecutive regional championship at the Murray regional KHSSL Speech tournament. The team advanced all 21 students who participated to the state tournament which will be held at the University of Kentucky, February 25-26th.
The team boasted 12 tournament champions in individual events including Isabella Brawner in both broadcasting and declamation, Courtney Hargrove in dramatic interpretation, and the duo acting team of Kylee Carter and Brilee Garland. Addy Lusk was the tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking and impromptu while Brilee Garland was the tournament champion humorous interpretation and in improvisational duo with her partner Vayla Carlisle. Gracie Fike was the champion in oratory and Shakira Shouse was the champion in poetry. Kylee Carter was the regional champion in prose.
Eleven CCMS students were regional runners-up in their events including Quinlyn Moore in broadcasting and Reagan Rice in declamation. Shakira Shouse was runner-up in dramatic interpretation as were the duo acting team of Jaleigh Ham and Payton Conklin. Amber Wu was runner-up in extemporaneous speaking and Vayla Carlisle in humorous interpretation. Faith McCafferty was runner-up in both prose and improvisational duo with her partner Abby Brown. Gracie Fike was runner-up in impromptu as was Payton Conklin in oratory. Charlotte Haws was the regional runner-up in storytelling.
Coach Jennifer Dunnaway was nominated for Coach of the Year for the Murray region.
