CCMS Academic Team are District Governor's Cup Champs

The Calloway County Middle School Academic Team competed in the District Governors Cup tournament on Saturday, January 15^th. After a great day of competition among the Lakers, Murray Middle, and Graves Middle, the Lakers were named district champions for the fourteenth consecutive year. The Lakers totaled 76 team points, followed by Murray Middle with 32 team points, and Graves Middle with 6 points.

Along with the overall championship, students were awarded medals in all areas of competition! In the area of science, the Lakers swept the top three places with Connor Pile being named champion, Aiden Hooper as runner-up, and Sam Houston claiming third place. The Lakers also claimed the top three spots in language arts with Aubrey Naber being named champion, Amber Wu in second, followed by Maya Munoz in third. Tommy Gomez claimed the championship in social studies with Grant Todd following in third place and Samuel Houston in fifth place. The Lakers had Amber Wu win the championship in math, with Tommy Gomez in third place, and Zach Akin in fourth place. Connor Pile tied for the championship in fine arts, Maya Munoz finished in third, and Nora Burns took fourth place. Finally, the composition competition had Vayla Carlisle taking the runner-up spot, with Dakotah Pittman in third place, and Ansley Kennedy in fifth place.

In written assessment, the Lakers had some scores that brought special recognition across the state! Connor Pile’s fine arts score placed him as the top individual in the state, and his science score finished as the fifth highest in Kentucky. Amber Wu’s mathematics score put her as first in the state, and her language arts score was ranked as third in the state. In language arts, Aubrey Naber placed first in the state, and Maya Munoz had a fifth-place state finish in fine arts. These academic team scores are amongst over 250 middle schools that participate in the district tournament.
