Saturday School

CCHS is offering Saturday School to assist students needing credit recovery.  Saturday School is an opportunity for our students who may have failed a core academic course with a grade of 55 to 64.  Students will come in and complete work to recover this credit.  The remaining Saturday school dates are February 27; March 6, 13, 20, 27; and, April 17, 24.  Students may need to attend 1 or all 10 dates to recuperate the credit depending on their academic needs.  Times will be 8:00am-11:00am.

Credit Recovery Opportunities

CCHS is offering three credit recovery opportunities for our students.  Those opportunities include Saturday School, Laker Pride, and AEC placement.  We are making these changes as needed for our students.

  1. Saturday School is an opportunity for our students who may have failed a core academic course with a grade of 55 to 64.  Students will come in and complete work to recover this credit.  Saturday school dates will be February 27; March 6, 13, 20, 27; and, April 17, 24.  Students may need to attend 1 or all 10 dates to recuperate the credit depending on their academic needs.
  2. Laker Pride is an option for In Person and Distance-Paper students who failed courses with a grade of 54 or below.  We will remove students from elective-type courses and place them in Laker Pride to assist with their credit recovery.
  3. AEC Placement is a credit recovery option for our Distance-Online students only.  Students who need credit recovery and are Distance-Online learners will be placed with the AIF in the AEC program.

Distance Learning Students and Parents

Please make sure you are keeping up with your lesson--either online or paper packets.  Students, do not lag behind with your assignments.  Last Spring, we had numerous students not complete work in their classes.  Please keep in mind that the instruction this past Spring was merely a review of the material that was taught during previous part of the school year.  It is imperative for our distance learning students to understand that grades will be assigned, and they must keep up with class assignments and turn them on time!  If any parent wishes to change their student’s learning option, parents will need to contact Mr. King at 270-762-7374.

NAVIGATIING THE COLLEGE FINANICIAL AID APPLICATION PROCESS (Seniors/Parents):

Experts offer advice on applying for financial aid - College should be a time of growth and discovery, but for many it can also be a source of stress as students and parents try to find a way to pay for it. Fortunately, financial aid assistance is available.  KET’s College Financial Aid 2021: Education Matters offers help in navigating the all-important college financial aid application process. The program, hosted by KET’s Kelsey Starks, airs Monday, October 26 at 9/8 pm on KET and can be viewed online now at https://education.ket.org/resources/college-financial-aid-education-matters/

FAFSA:

  1. The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is now open.  You will need your 2019 tax information.  If your circumstances have changed this year, complete the FAFSA using 2019 tax information, and then contact the college/university you will be attending to recalculate for the 2020 circumstances.  About 30% of students are selected for Verification, so don’t worry when that happens.
  2. Ms. Dames is also available to help students with searches, applications, and comparisons.  Students can stop by her office, email at:  rebecca.dames@calloway.kyschools.us , or FAFSA site: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa

**If you are ever asked for a fee, you are on the wrong site!!

College Applications:

  1. Seniors should be completing college applications now!  Go to the university’s websites to find the Freshman Applications.  For Murray State, students who have been a part of Racer Academy need to complete a freshman application.
  2. Many schools are waiving the ACT score for admissions purposes, but they will still be used for placement in classes and scholarships.  Many schools will also have placement exams other than the ACT for class placement.  Contact your prospective school to find out about that!
  3. For Murray State, students with an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher do NOT need the ACT scores.  Students with an unweighted GPA of 2.0-2.99 must have an ACT composite of 18 to be admitted.
  4. It is the recommendation of the CCHS Guidance Counselors that students apply to Murray State even if that is not their first choice.  As we have seen this year, many events happen that might change your decision.  This will give you the opportunity to apply for scholarships if you qualify, and be prepared if circumstances change.
  5. Once you have applied to a university/college, request your transcript be sent to each school by the guidance office.
  6. The ACT will be given multiple times this year in order to keep the number of testers smaller.  Be sure to list all schools you are interested in to receive scores.

Check  https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act.html to sign up and check testing dates.

  1. Murray State also offers a Residual ACT for students interesting in Murray State only.  These scores will NOT transfer to schools.

https://www.murraystate.edu/headermenu/administration/StudentAffairs/departments/testing_center/index.aspx

Scroll to the bottom of the page to find information and application.  The cost is $52.00

For Juniors:

The Commonwealth Honors Academy at Murray State is a three-week long challenging academic enrichment program.  Students earn credit hours during the summer and are offered classes during the senior year.  The application is due March 15, 2021.

  • There will be a virtual meeting on Wednesday, February 17 during CCR.
  • The link for the application is :  www.murraystate.edu/cha
  • Distance learners need to contact Mrs. Crouse for the link to join at 11:05 on February 17.
